  1. My aunt just led me to your blog. I love it! We're currently in the very beginning stages of adoption and have 3 biological children.

Could I ask a question or make a suggestion? For the sake of newcomers such as me, it would be great to have something on the sidebar (or maybe a post that can be found easily) that explains who each family member is and how they came to be a part of the family. For example, I loved the recent post on Shoun, but its unclear if he's adopted, was fostered and now with a new family and why it will take 3 1/2 years for him to be a legal citizen. I'm sure this is all clarified in previous posts, but I could read all day (and gladly would if I could!) and not know which posts would answer questions.

And as a side note, I LOVE your idea of rites of passage. If you get a chance (you know... when you have "nothing" else to do), I'd love to hear your ideas for the 5 and 10 year milestones also.

    Thanks a bunch!

  2. Dear Homesteading Mommy,

Welcome! Is your aunt someone we know or someone who just happened to stumble upon us? Thanks for the suggestion about a sidebar and one of these days, while enjoying my bon-bons and soaps, I think I will work on that. In the meantime, I did write today's blog in answer to your question for a quick explanation on each child.

I do want to answer your question about Shoun's eventual adoption: While attempting to protect both his privacy and the privacy of his biological family, let's just say that Shoun is currently a legal resident but we cannot officially adopt him until he's an official citizen. In the meantime, it's a legal technicality only, to us he's ours just like everyone else in the family.

We are always excited to hear of others who are growing their family through adoption. What a blessing to all involved, and to those who watch your family from the outside.
