Nacho average shower

On March 14, members of the bridal party, along with representatives of Jake's family and Mariana's family, met to discuss a July wedding shower for the bride and groom to be. We decided to make it a shower for both of them since they are both so family-oriented and have many of the same friends. Because most people expect just a bridal shower, we decided that the theme would be "nacho average" wedding shower.

Two days later the world shut down.

Okay, that's being overly dramatic. Actually, some of the world had already shut down. It was just our turn.

Shower planning continued but with contingency planning always in the back of the mind.

We put off sending out invitations and gave ourselves a deadline of June 1 to make a decision. Things were looking up but the church, our shower venue, was still closed, and we knew everything could change in an instant.

"Nacho ordinary" became even more so.

We decided to move the shower to our home, to have it outside, and to offer options like mailing a gift, driving by and throwing your gift out the window, pulling up to watch them open the gift, or stopping to stay for a time.

We also eliminated the meal aspect so there was no open food. The taco bar, part of the original theme, became just a meal for the family and friends here for set up. Snacks for the shower became packaged products.

In the end, it was just as sweet and very special. Though a tad on the hot side, it wasn't unbearable as the evening sun settled on the other side of the house (even though no one believed me when I said it would).

We are all so thankful for friends and family who celebrated this very special couple with us.
