DIY

Part of Plan K was all of the DIY aspects. It was a lot of work but definitely very special. Plan A would have meant that all of the decorating would have had to be done in the hours before the wedding, at the same time that everyone was getting ready. Plan K meant that we had a whole day between the rehearsal and the wedding to get set up.

So, first stop, the flower market to pick up the flowers.

Next stop, the barn where a lot of work had already been done. Chelsey, our fearless coordinator, was the reason it all ran smoothly.

Then to take all of those flowers and make beautiful centerpieces out of them. For the past year, we've been collecting colored vases from thrift shops. Five of them grouped together with simple flowers were the perfect centerpieces.

Tinted glass drinking glasses had also been collected. They served an added purpose - take-home wedding favor! All from the thrift shop (and washed, of course!).

It has been joked that this reception was brought to you by PopPop. You give him a project, it's done the next day. You give him another project, and he makes a dozen.

Doilies by HopeAnne and Great Grandmom and anonymous grandmothers whose families didn't appreciate the work and donated their wares to the thrift shop.

This market basket was filled with flowers for my wedding. A family friend filled it once again for Mariana's wedding.

These are the parts of the wedding, of making our own, of coming together to decorate, of collaborating, that we will remember forever.
