"On the night that Jesus was betrayed, He first met with His disciples in what we now call "The Upper Room" to celebrate Passover. During the Passover celebration, Jews took part in a Seder, a service in homes, around the table, retelling and reliving their ancestors' freedom from slavery in Egypt. While Jesus led the Seder meal, he instructed His disciples to "do this in remembrance of me." Celebrating this night and Jesus' subsequent death and resurrection, is now referred to as Communion for Christians. We are going to celebrate Communion together this evening, in full remembrance of why Jesus asked us to remember Him and His sacrifice. you will hear, see, and taste aspects of the Seder meal, interspersed with changes that celebrate Jesus' resurrection and our freedom from sins, rather than Moses and the Jews' freedom from slavery..."
And this began our family night of remembering.
And the youngest child asks, "Why is this night different from all other nights?"
We remember that Jesus didn't stay dead and buried in a tomb, He was resurrected and lives today. He told us that this bread is to remind us of His body. We will break pieces from this bread to remember that Jesus' body needed to be broken before it could be resurrected. These actions, His death and His resurrection, should always be in our memories...
Do this in remembrance of me...
Until we are with the Lord forever. Amen.
